Data Analyst Job Description

The Data Analyst will apply analytical methods to help the Education Authority understand and optimise its data. Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse data and interpret results using appropriate statistical techniques.
  • Develop and improve database processes, data collection systems and analytical strategies.
  • Identify trends and patterns within complex datasets.
  • Review datasets for potential security weaknesses and support corrective measures.
  • Clean and validate data by identifying and correcting data or coding issues.
  • Work with management to establish and prioritise business and information requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Support the strategic direction of Data Services.
  • Manage the relevant strand of the Data Strategy in line with organisational requirements and applicable legislation.
  • Line manage employees supporting the Insights Centre of Excellence where assigned.
  • Establish clear structures, responsibilities, policies and processes for supported systems and services.
  • Manage project risks and provide early warnings on assurance matters.
  • Ensure deliverables are managed effectively against scope, time and cost requirements.
  • Work with senior data leadership to ensure project deliverables follow the relevant project management framework.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation and project records.
  • Support service budgets in accordance with financial procedures.
  • Maintain quality assurance standards and investigate complaints or adverse incidents within areas of responsibility.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following qualification and experience routes:

  • A bachelor’s degree at QCF Level 6 or an equivalent/higher qualification in a relevant discipline such as Science, Technology, Engineering, ICT, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics or Business, together with two years of relevant experience; or
  • Five years of relevant experience.

Relevant experience means delivering analysis that supports decision-making or service improvement and working with stakeholders to understand information requirements and translate them into analytical outputs.

Candidates must also demonstrate experience with:

  • Structured datasets, including querying, transforming and validating information using SQL.
  • Developing dashboards or reports with business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Oracle Analytics Server, Tableau, Qlik or similar.
  • Presenting analytical findings clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Managing multiple priorities and meeting agreed deadlines.
  • Working with stakeholders to understand requirements and produce useful outputs.
  • Analysing business processes and documenting data or system requirements for change or system implementation.
